aim of the course

The course will provide progression from level 5 to an Advanced Certificate in Childcare at level 6 with a focus on supervision and management of childcare facilities.

entry requirements

Applicants must have completed the QQI level 5 Childcare. The learner must be Garda vetted to avail of college facilities.

course content

Participants will study a combination of 8 modules to meet the programme requirements including:

  • Child Development
  • Early Childhood Curriculum
  • Childhood Social Legal and Health Studies
  • Work Experience

Students are required to gain work experience in a relevant sector and to establish contact with prospective employers.

One year from September to May. Approximately 20 hours’ class contact plus computer lab time.

A limited number of places are reserved on a competitive basis on ordinary degree and honours degree courses in third level colleges for students who successfully complete a fetac course. Please refer to the current guide to the Higher Education Links Scheme on www.fetac.ie and www.cao.ie.

course fees

As the course is ndp funded, there are no tuition fees. However, the following are payable:

  • €20 non-refundable administration fee with your application form.
  • €100 registration fee on commencement of the course.
  • €200 contribution to the Department of Education and Skills – see page 4 for exemptions.
  • €50 exam fees payable in January – see page 4 for exemptions.
  • Some modules will require the purchase of a text book.
